Funeral and Memorial Services

Christian Funeral and Memorial Services offer us a way to commend our loved ones into God’s eternal care and light. At a Christian funeral service, we hear once again the promises that were made at Baptism… “That nothing can separate us from the Love of God that is in Jesus Christ.”

Funerals at Mindekirken
Please contact Mindekirken as soon as possible following a death of a loved one to schedule the funeral or memorial service. It is important both to find out when the church and/or pastor is available. Mindekirken's pastor is also available to preside at funerals or memorial services in funeral homes, grave-side services, or other locations by appointment.  Please contact the church office at 612-874-0716 to make arrangements.

The Pastor will meet with family or friends to plan the worship service. A funeral director usually makes all other arrangements.  It is possible to schedule a luncheon at Mindekirken following a funeral or memorial service.

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage and blessings as you plan for this new chapter of your life together!

In Holy Baptism our gracious heavenly Father frees us from sin and death by joining us to the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are born children of a fallen humanity; in the waters of Baptism we are reborn children of God and inheritors of eternal life. By water and the Holy Spirit we are reborn children of God and made members of the Church, the body of Christ. Living with Christ and in the communion of the saints, we grow in faith, love, and obedience to the will of God.

Baptism of infants/children

As Lutherans we baptize people of all ages. Are you seeking a church to have your baby or child baptized? Please contact the church office and we’d be happy to set up a time to meet with you and learn more about you and your family. We welcome you to join us for worship on Sundays at 9:00 am English service or 11:00 am Norwegian service.

Baptism as an adult

We also welcome adults to the baptismal font. If you have never been baptized and would like to learn more, please contact the office at 612-874-0716 for a conversation with our pastor.  We look forward to getting to know you and sharing more about the Lutheran faith.

Then he took a little child and put it among them; and taking it in his arms, he said to them, ‘Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me.’
--Mark 9:36-37
--Mark 9:36-37

The Mindekirken Nursery is located on the lower level, the Nidaros Room.

The nursery at Mindekirken provides a nurturing and safe environment with a Norwegian flavor for the youngest of our churchgoers.

The nursery is stocked with Norwegian books and many toys, and our nursery attendant both sings and reads to the little ones in Norwegian.

"We look forward to having your young ones in the nursery."

Welcome to worship at Mindekirken!

Worship is the heart of Mindekirken’s church community.  We gather together each Sunday to hear the word of God in word and song and thanks and praise God for his great mercy to us in Jesus Christ.  Whether you are a life-long Lutheran, visiting from another church or entirely new to church, you are all welcome at Mindekirken.

NOTE! Due to the COVID-19 coronavirus, Mindekirken is temporarily putting worship services in the building on hold. Instead we are offering our members and friends the opportunity to view Pastor Anne Brit Aasland's sermons online. Please click here to view sermons starting March 22, 2020 online.

Here’s what to expect on a Sunday morning.

  • Our 9:00 a.m. English worship service includes liturgies and hymns from the “Lutheran Book of Worship”, “With One Voice” and "Hymns and Spiritual Songs from the North" (Nordic hymns in English translation)
  • Our 11:00 a.m. Norwegian worship service included liturgies and hymns from the Lutheran Church of Norway.    The bulletin will include English translations of the liturgy and of the sermon.
  • Communion is normally offered every first and third Sunday of the month, and the traditional festival days Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, Ash Wednesday and Holy Thursday. All baptized Christians who confess the Lordship of Jesus Christ are welcome.
  • Sunday School and Nursery available for children and youth.
  • The Music Ministry includes an adult choir and individual performances by members and visitors.  A Santa Lucia pageant by our youth and Sunday School is performed each December.
  • Large print worship materials and hearing aids are available.
  • We offer ‘Kirkekaffe’ (church coffee) after each service – a chance to visit with friends and visitors alike over a tasty treat and good cup of coffee!
  • Home visits with Holy Communion can be requested from the pastor.
