Altar Guild
Altar Guild members take care of the altar area. Responsibilities include setup and cleanup of the altar for worship services, with or without communion, change paraments as scheduled by the church year calendar and clean linens when needed.

Besides changing the paraments, the Altar Guild also prepares the elements for Holy Communion. This includes: fill communion vessels with wine and grape juice, set out the communion cups and clean up after each communion service, place everything back in storage.  The Altar Guild also manages the other decorations of the chancel area, such as the flowers.

Time Requirement: Arrive 30 minutes prior to 9:00 English service to set up altar and communion if applicable.  Additional 30 minutes after the 11:00 Norwegian service.  Set up and take down jobs can be split up.

Communion Assistant
Communion Assistants help administer the sacrament of Holy Communion by pouring wine into the communion cups on Sundays or special services.

Time Requirement: Approximately 15-20 minutes during the worship service.

Greeters
As the greeter is often the first person members and guests see upon arriving at the church, first impressions are important.  The greeter will meet members and guests with a friendly welcome, give directions and assist wherever possible.

Time Requirement: Arrive 30 minutes prior to worship, attend at the door until 15 minutes after the service starts.

Nursery
Mindekirken welcomes children to their worship service but understands this is not always possible.  The nursery is looking for caring individuals dedicated to provide safe, secure, nurturing, clean and efficient care to our children during the worship service.

Time Requirement: Arrive 30 minutes prior to worship, serve as nursery attendant during the service and stay approximately 15 minutes after the service – after all the children have been picked up by their parents.

Scripture Readers
Read the scripture lessons in English at 9:00 and in Norwegian at the 11:00 am Sunday worship service.   Readings are sent out ahead of time so that readers can practice. Strong readers of all ages are encouraged to participate. Norwegian scripture readers should be fluent in Norwegian.  Contact the church office to volunteer or talk to the pastor.

Time Requirement: Arrive 15 minutes prior to worship, read the scripture verse as a part of the worship service.

Ushers
The usher’s main duty is to hand out bulletins and welcome members and newcomers alike to the worship service.  They offer a warm welcome and offer to assist with any questions or difficulties the worshiper may have.

The second major duty of the usher is to prepare the sanctuary and ensure the worship service runs smoothly.  The duties include: post the flags, unlock the doors, post the hymn numbers, adjust the lighting, record attendance, gather the offering, direct the flow to and from the communion area, assist worshippers after the service. After all the worshipers have left, the ushers put everything away, secure the doors and tidy up the sanctuary (collect trash, straighten pew racks and retrieve found articles).

Time Requirement: Arrive 30 minutes prior to worship, serve during the service, stay 15 minutes after the service.
